Reaction about the Article of Montalvan
Nowadays, the prices of the products are getting higher and higher. And due to this crisis many people needs job to support daily needs. And also many people in this time didn’t mind what kind of jobs there’re in. Even selling there bodies just to live.
Teenagers today are so liberated. They need a sex education to inform them the effects and disadvantage in early pregnancy. This may cause overpopulation, shortage illness to woman and of course poverty.
There are some ways to prevent the population explosion. Just like:
Contraceptives can help in controlling the population explosion.
Sex education – this is very helpful to us students to know the effects and disadvantage of the population explosion.
And most of all self-respect. If you have respect to the opposite sex of course there will be no interaction will occur and it can help the growing of population.
By these ways it can help the society.

Population expolsion was not the biggest problem in the country, it's just part of a little.

The anti-life and anti-family advocates still pursue the decrease of population, which they think that it’s the solution for economic growth and development. And yes, it questionable that the anti-life and anti-family advocates didn’t give a push to comprise the Senate Bill 319 which seeks to ban abortive drugs and devices if they are really concern of the society. They might want to advocate abortion too.
Everybody should understand that poverty is not only caused by overpopulation and reducing population is not he aid to economic crisis. For an instance, how can you explain the crises that are taking place in some countries that have less population density? Poverty is caused by o lot of issues in the economy. The status economic of a country depends to the continuous economic flow and not just arguments about population. There are so many factors to consider here. Like in our country today, the best thing to pay attention to is the government and their governance. If the graft and corruption would not be aided for as soon as possible, success will remain elusive.
The decline in population can also bring disaster to a country. It may even contribute to poverty because there would be less labor force.
Reaction to the Published Article, "About Montalvan"
Malthus was not optimistic about the outcome and suggested that only ‘moral restraint’ (birth control) could prevent crisis. Recent famines in Ethiopia and other countries, where drought, civil war, and poverty have reduced agricultural output, might suggest that Malthus was correct. In the USA, the UK, and many other countries, the agrarian revolution boosted food production, and contraception led to a decline in birth rate; and in some countries population control policies have been introduced.
To my point of view, I 50% sided to the statement "Increase in population will devastate the economical status of a country" and 50% to the statement "Increase in population will help the economical status of a country".
To further ellaborate (I will only focus here in the Phil.), to the side of devastating the economy, for example here in the Philippines, it's a fact that the greater the population the lower the economical status. Tracing back way in 1990's the Philippine population was more than 66 million, up from 48 million in 1980. This figure represents an annual growth rate of 2.5 percent, down from 2.6 percent in 1980 and from more than 3 percent in the 1960s. And in 1990's we're still progressive at that time. Why the Philippines is in great crisis now is in the leaders itself and the habbit the pinoys have-- poor people always looking up in our government for aid instead of making iniatiative how to survive. We should help our country to solve our problems not contributing! The trend of law of supply and demand states that the higher the population, the higher or even highest the demand exist. About our leaders, money that come from the government which is suppose to be for the people, they're just putting it in their pockets like nothing happens!
Now, to the side of helping the economy. This requires labor force. The more the population, the more the labor force there is. So this would result to progress. Here in the Phil., we have more labor force but not fully used because there are many individuals who are jobless. But it's true that the more people there are the progressive the country will become. If China will continue its 2 child policy well it would lead to less labor force.
I am with Malthus when he said about the usage of contraceptives. In the Phil., it's the major contributor how to lessen population. Especially teens now are so hot, they need to bring pills or condom with them. In these days we cannot stop teens from being so "flitry", so they to bring with them contraceptives.
How can someone say in this IV-Rutherford group that poverty is not the effect of overpopulation? It's always overpopulation...overpopulation! Supply and demand remember? Malthus' theory is the solution now waiting to be seen by the government!

Reaction to the Article: About Montalvan
reaction:
It was mentioned in the article about the theory of Malthus. Many people knew about the theory of Malthus and most of the cling to it. It says in the article that those who do cling to Malthus’ theory up to this day misinterpret not just for his thought but they do have a successful population program. Japan, Germany and Italy are now in the throes of the so called “demographic winter.” The governments of Russia, Singapore, South Korea, and Bulgaria are now offering incentives to encourage childbearing in the attempt to curb population decline. Yet in the Philippines, many anti-life advocates do not cling to this theory because of the own reasons. This is really one big factor why the country does not rise from the problem in the increase of population. As for these reasons that they have, they have their points being against this theory and influence Philippine legislative efforts so to not follow the theory.
On the other side, for some reasons, the article says that population decrease is not a result to poverty fore in many years ago, the population rate of the country decreased but still many people are in the level of poverty. I should say that a agree with it because though population will decrease, if there is nothing to eat, nothing jobs offered, and nothing less to survive, still poverty will not be gone. There are many side activities why poverty does not decrease like corruption, and more. But in general, decreasing could also help in lowering the level of poverty in any sense. Still it could give more opportunities for many to have a descent job to have a better living.
As for my own point of view, I do not certainly agree about this bill in the case of reproductive health which was mentioned in the article though this really could help in the succession of the country. But we should still have to consider our human rights. Our country is a catholic country. We believe in many things especially God. We have commandments to follow. Though contraceptives do can really help in decreasing population growth, many people will be affected in whatever they believed in. Maybe there are some other ways in preventing the growth of population rather considering this bill as appropriate in our country. Some other countries have a very big rate in population but they are not in the stage where almost all the people die and suffer because of poverty. It is not only the rate of the number of people that we should consider, we should also look at the people who handle the lives of many people, those people who mislead the money given to them to help their own country men, and those who just destroy the name of the country.
REacTion On The ArTiCle "ABOuT MonTaLvaN". . .
Malthus proposal for the solutions that would apply to the poor, seems to be the hardest solution. It implies that only few have these capabilities, like social responsibility for societal ills. Philippines is experiencing now a low economical status. All of the people's needs are now increasing. Rice, gasolines, Foods and etc. they found out that sex education, two-child policy and the law of covering reproductive health was the best solution to decrease population growth. This way could help a bit in decreasing our population growth but on the other hand, these solution that will be implemented will be the worst way to decrease population growth. Two Child policy: do you think, family that consists of more than two child will agree on these solution? i think they won't. I'm not implying that all of these solution that proposed by the government is not good for our country.
When we tackled about our economy, it would be that the economic status is improving. these facts are the possible output of our economy it can prevail in a certain country wherein some circumstances are must be considered. Some of these includes how government works our country, how they handle the
budget for each projects that must be implied and how sincere they are
in serving our country.
There are some points that could help our country, like family planning, sex education for the youth and promoting contraceptives for women. I strongly believe that, if people will help themselves. There would be a what we called " success ". And we should stop CORRUPTION, that hinders all the plans that should be proposed in our country.
I am really opposing on the article that i have red, about the economic status that they are facing, and all the solutions that they are trying to imply. So, we must strive hard now, to help our country improve as well as other countries did. And we just need to be united as on, and we should work all these together. Cuz' "The Family that prays together, stays together".

The Malthus theory article states that the increase of population will lead to economic problems such as running out food supplies and the basic commodities.
I agreed that the growth of the population affect the economic status of the country because, when the population of the country increases, the supply and demand also increases. But here in the
But I’m not saying that population control is simply the solution to poverty or economic problem. There are other factors such as graft and corruption in the government. In fact,
Therefore, it is good that we will control the population growth. But we must put a stop to the use of reproductive health, artificial contraceptive and etc. because it is simply a catch-all jargon that includes abortion and it may have negative effects to the health of women. And there are some factors that we will include especially the government which is responsible for control.

Well, I am not saying that the population is the only reason why our economy today is getting worse. The other factors that make our economy fall down are the government and the citizens.I think, the government has the power to control the population growth. But It is a fact that the Philippine government is known to be corrupt, and they keep on promising but they broke all their promises. Another thing, our fellow Filipinos should also take responsibilities since they are citizens of this country, and some of them depend on the government. That’s why they are lazy. We shouldn’t put all the blame of what is happening in our society and in our economy to our government leaders. For me, people should be independent and work for their own future. And remember “Thou shall not disobey the rules.” Because once you’ll disobey, you’ll suffer.

population growth can greatly affect the economic status of a certain country.
Well for me, I strongly disagree that population growth had greatly affect the decline of the
economic status of our country, maybe it contributes, but it doesn't mean that
it is really the main reason why Economic Crisis is prevailing in our country right now..
When we talk of economy, it could be that the economic status is in success
or declining. Either of the two can prevail in a certain country wherein
a lot of factors must be considered. Some of these includes how
government officials govern the country, how they manage the
budget allotment for each projects to be done, and how dedicated they are
in serving the people.
Population growth has nothing to do against the decline of economic
status that the Philippines is experiencing because
when we would look at other country, like China, whose population is greater than
what our population is, we can see that they are not experiencing
a tremendous economic crisis that we are experiencing right now.
So, from that example alone we could clearly see that
population growth can never totally affect the economic status of a certain country.
It's just a matter of how good the governance is
and on how dedicated the officials are in serving the people not minding
of the benefits that they could have.
Also in the article, an English demographer named Thomas Robert Malthus
advocated a solution called the "moral restraint and vice" which
states that in controlling the population growth
is to practice late marriage and sexual abstinence. He also
proposed on the use of infanticide, murder, contraception, and homosexuality.
In his proposal, it is very much horrifying that in controlling
the population, disobeying the Law of God is involved and much worst is that
it must only be applied among people who belongs to the
lower class of the society.
I guess, it is very much unfair since social discrimination
is already involved.
Another thing that is being tackled in the article
are the proposed plans of a two child policy, reproductive health and sex education
for the youth. all of these plans has of it's own advantage
as well as a great disadvantage. Advantage in a sense that it could
give knowledge among the youth and it could also help in preventing the
so called abrupt "population bloom" but when we talk of the
disadvantage it could bring, it would cause
a lesser labor force which then could contribute
to a much declining economic status in the future.
For me, all of the proposed plans stated in the
article, can never do a great help and can never be considered
as the best solution for rising the economic status of the Philippines.
Economic rise can be achieved if WE would start
educating and disciplining ourselves
to become a more responsible citizen.
Economic growth and Economic Status is not merely based on the
population's growth but it's just a matter of
GOOD GOVERNANCE and TRUE SERVICE that our government officials
would render to US.

Due to these problems,
But, do these really help? Do these increase the development of our country? THINK!
Two-child policy, could also help in decreasing population, but what if the couple already have 3 or 4 or even more? Are they going to kill them? Obviously, that’s not good or even right!
Sex education for the youth, it gives knowledge to students or early youth, it gives knowledge to students to be open-minded about those issues at the very early age. But, does this help? Yes, in decreasing population. But in
Well, though these policies or laws are used today, we still haven’t progress, and the worst, we getting down.
Having a populated country, won’t merely help in developing our country. Though its over populated, as long as we know how to strive and survive, surely, it will soon progress.
Recently, our situation here in the
Though we are too many, too crowded in this country, if we could just unite and cooperate, avoid the grafting and corruption which is mainly why we never progress, be true to everything, helping each other, hand in hand, Philippines will simultaneously progress.
We must also remember the saying, “the merrier the better”, but still, “we need to strive more together”.

Nowadays, Filipinos are not working and they are contented staying at home. Since they have nothing to do, they would come up to love-making at the end and come up with a children. Unlike those other countries with higher economic rate and low populations. Their parents are usually busy at work and have no time for heating up their bodies. They are being more practical, following Malthus Theory for they have ended up having high ecomonical rate and prosper.
That's why some foreign countries criticize us because were so lazy. And yes, it's true. That's why some families can't eat 3 times a day because of laziness. If we strive our economy will rise or shall I say we can have high economy.

It is presented as an argument whether or not population should be controlled by means of using contraceptives. My idea on this mater is, it should. Why? Because the supply itself (like what I mentioned earlier) is not sufficient, it is having a hard time copping up with the bloated population. Thus it should be controlled, so that the population would equal the supply, and not the other way around, because with today’s economical crisis it is very impractical.
I am not saying that population is the only reason why our economy today is very unstable, but what I am trying to imply is that the growth of a population is one of the main factors why an economy fluctuates. What are the other factors, you ask? I believe that the government and the citizens also have big impacts to our economy.
The government is responsible for control, therefore they are the ones concerned mainly with the development of our country. It is a fact that the Philippine government is known to be corrupt, due to this image, our present leaders should prove to the people that what they believe is wrong, but unfortunately nothing is happening. Another thing, our fellow Filipinos should also take responsibilities since they are citizens of this country. We shouldn’t put all the blame of what is happening in our society and in our economy to our government leaders.
To others, Population may not have any connection with a country’s economical status. But they should always put in mind: “Too much of something is not good and too little of that thing is not enough.”

About Montalvan
By Antonio J. Montalvan IILast updated 01:19am (Mla time) 07/10/2006
Published on page A15 of the July 10, 2006 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer
I AM REFERRING TO THE ANTI-LIFE AND ANTI-family advocates who seem not to run out of clever ways to insert their Western-based agenda into every conceivable legislation they can think of. Now they would have 21 bills of various concerns consolidated into an omnibus law covering reproductive health, population policy, two-child policy and sex education for the youth. Of the bills, at least three promote the use of artificial contraception in the guise of promoting “women’s health.”
These advocates have turned a valid societal concern into a euphemism for their real agenda-population control. If they really want to address women’s health, why is there no attempt to include Senate Bill 319? The bill seeks to ban abortive drugs and devices. The bills exclusion gives away outright the sinister intentions of the advocates.
The basis of their arguments of course, is the erroneous belief that a decline in population means economic growth and development. Thomas Robert Malthus was an English demographer from 1766-1834. It was he who introduce the rather pessimistic principle that foresaw the world’s population out running food supply, leading to decrease food per person.
To check population growth, Mathus advocated, among other solutions, what we called “moral restraint and vice.” This population control strategy called for the late marriage and sexual abstinence; but is also advocated infanticides, murder, contraception and homosexuality. But there’s the catch in the Malthus proposal: these solutions would apply only to the poor and working classes. In the Mathusian argument, only the lower social classes would assume social responsibility for societal ills.
Since then many have misinterpreted Malthus, even overlooking other aspects of his argument. For example, there are those who ignore for the fact that Malthus himself, even as he pressed for population control, stated that we cannot denigrate man’s capacity (he called it power) to increase food supply.
Those who do cling to Malthus’ theory up to this day misinterpret not just for his thought. In there vain desire to adopt the western culture of licentious behavior in the name of freedom and self-determination, they have put up their own smokescreen to keep them from seeing a succession of various scholars and students that have effectively debunked Malthus since 1960’s. At least one such study, published in 1966, was not only a pioneering initiative at that time; it gaves its proponent a Nobel prize honor. Since then, up until 1990’s and the present, a progression of other studies has only pointed to the emerging reality: there just is no population bomb.
Not only that, countries that have been lured by the Malthusian myth into running a “successful” population program now have to address the grim reality of diminishing human resources. Japan, Germany and Italy are now in the throes of the so called “ demographic winter.” The governments of Russia, Singapore, South Korea, and Bulgaria are now offering incentives to encourage childbearing in the attempt to curb population decline.
Yet here in the Philippines, anti-life advocates-usually pikon when criticize despite the fact that they have access to the legislative powers-that-be-cling to an out-of-touch, outdated and archaic thinking that even their Western gods have failed to prove in their respective countries. The advocates seem not to hear the alarm bells ringing in countries where the demographic winter has set in, countries that are now repentant at having toyed with Malthus theory.
Why the recalcitrance on the part of our anti-life advocates? There clearly a colonial agenda here that is tied to Western purse strings. These agenda-makers may not be obtrusive with their presence. It is even possible that some advocates are aware of them or have not yet notice them. But I won’t be surprise if there lurks in the shadows such anti-life giant octopuses as Planned Parenthood, whose tentacles may have spread far and wide to influence Philippine legislative efforts.
Population control is simply not the solution to poverty. The Philippine population control program, in place since the 1970’s and funded by billions of pesos of public money, has brought down the population from 3.08 percent during the period of 1960-1970 to 2.36 percent during the period 1995-2000. Despite the population decline, however, poverty incidence has not been reduce significantly. Clearly then, there are other factors that are not being address. Try curbing graft and corruption, as we expects legislators to do.
The proposed bills are premised on the belief that we are poor because we are too many. Fewer births may (or may not) mean less expense for a family, depending on its priorities. What is certain however, is that less births means less people for the labor force in the next 20 years. Higher population densities do not necessarily translate into lower personal income. We have certainly seen this in thickly populated areas that exhibit higher incomes and greater economic activity (the National Capital Region, Southern Tagalog, Cebu, Davao, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea; as opposed to Bolivia, Kenya, Ethiopia, which have lower density but also lower personal income)
Finally, when must we put a stop to the use of the term “reproductive health” which, in international forums, is simply a catch-all jargon that includes abortion; but which local advocates have repeatedly denied? The attempt to redefine a term that has become part of an all-encompassing political definition is a lame method of deceit and dishonesty.
